Annual Spring International Speech Contest

Our Annual Spring International Speech Contest is on Friday, February 13th, and Evaluation Contest is on Friday, February 20th. Jay, Mike and Todd will be going at it this week with inspirational speeches. These themed meetings have a different structure than our regular meeting, so join us, sit back, and listen to some great speeches.

A little background... To compete in the International Speech Contest, members must be in good standing and have completed at least six speeches prior to the contest. These are experienced speakers.

The speeches must be substantially original and between 4:30-7:30 minutes in length, or they will be disqualified. Those in 1st Place from the two club contests will advance to the Area 16 Contests at the Snohomish Library (311 Maple Ave., Snohomish, WA 98290) on Saturday, March 1 from 1-4:30 p.m.

See you at our club contests on February 13th and 20th!

What do overcoming fears, sales, and bear encounters have in common?

They were the topics of last week's speeches. Three very interesting speeches on three completely different topics and three excellent evaluations on how each speaker -- and all of us -- can improve.

Glen started off by putting us all on the edge of our seat with a tale of a bear encounter with clients (!) while giving them a bear tour in a float plane.

Jay then gave us all a process for overcoming your fear of public speaking. (Hint: Use the "reduction to the ridiculous" - visualize those butterflies in your stomach as being real to get over your anxiety.)

Todd wrapped up the speeches by showing us the 12 Steps to injecting "sales" in your website.

Table Topics Master Joy shook things up a bit by bringing a grab bag of words which people had to pull and make up a story that included the words they pulled.

Another slate of interesting speeches awaits us this week.

Kylie will be working on Your Body Speaks while giving a speech on the "Six Essentials of a Successful Fundraising Offer." She says, "There are six keys to creating an offer that moves your community from inaction to action. Looking for more success in your fundraising appeals? Reshape your fundraising request around these elements and you are guaranteed to increase your response!" Mickie will be working on Vocal Variety while giving a speech called “The Introduction of Abigail Grace.”

Feel free to join us.  Attend as a guest and see what our club is all about.
